#10018 - Virtual Memory problem with Macromedia Director 6.0

When attempting to execute certain programs, including 'A Day With The Wiggles', the error message "Director Player 6.0 - This program requires at least 3 MB of free virtual memory to run", or something similar, appears on screen.
The error actually has little to do with a lack of free virtual memory, but an excess of it. To solve the error the following steps can be taken.

Windows 95/98/ME users:

    1. Right-click on MY COMPUTER
    2. Click on PROPERTIES
    3. Click on the PERFORMANCE tab
    4. Click on the VIRTUAL MEMORY... button
    5. Select LET WINDOWS MANAGE MY VIRTUAL MEMORY SETTINGS
    6. Click OK
    7. Click OK
    8. Restart your PC
    9. Try the program again.

If this does not solve your problem or if LET WINDOWS MANAGE MY VIRTUAL MEMORY SETTINGS is already selected, please follow these instructions:

    1. Repeat steps 1-4 above
    2. Select LET ME SPECIFY MY OWN VIRTUAL MEMORY SETTINGS
    3. In the MAXIMUM field type 200 (This value can vary from configuration to configuration. Generally, a maximum Virtual Memory setting of 200MB will prevent the problem from occurring)
    4. Click on OK
    5. Click on OK
    6. Restart your PC

The program should now work.

Windows 2000/XP users:

    7. Select SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE
    8. Click on the SET button
    9. Click on OK
    10. Close all the following windows by clicking OK
    11. Restart your PC
    12. Try the program again

If this does not solve your problem you will need to follow these steps:

    1. Repeat Steps 1-5 above.
    2. Select CUSTOM SIZE
    3. Enter the MINIMUM and MAXIMUM SIZE (MB): as 200 (This value can vary from configuration to configuration. Generally, a maximum Virtual Memory setting of 200MB will prevent the problem from occurring)
    4. Click on the SET button
    5. Click on OK
    6. Close all the following windows by clicking OK
    7. Restart your PC

If you still get the same message, try resetting the MInimum and Maximum to 4000MB.

If you still get the same problem completely shut down and restart your PC and retry accessing the program or the aforementioned steps.

If you are unsure about any of these steps, or are not confident in applying them to your computer, please do not hesitate to contact one of our support staff for assistance.
